Crossroads welcomed local educator and historian, Steven Fidel Herraiz, who presented a terrifically entertaining and historic multi-media retrospective of the notorious working class Irish neighborhood near San Francisco’s shipyards (c. 1860-1918).

Steven has researched the history of this neighborhood with great passion to reveal the hidden stories like that of Silver King Frank McManus, known as the “King of The Potrero”, infamous saloons that hosted bare-knuckled boxing, Boarding houses that employed only ex-cons, union houses and other businesses like the Union Hotel, which was the longest-standing hotel in the area.

Refreshments served courtesy of Kerrygold and John Campbell’s Irish Bakery, 5625 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94121.
